Boys Room Project (aka...The Death of Me)

This is a long post, but only because this was a long project with a lot of steps and took months to finish.

We had three boys in one room and had one more to add.  I like the idea that the four little boys are all together and near my room to keep an eye on them.  Here is what it looked like before.

A bunk bed, a two person dresser and another mattress thrown in.

First we moved them all to the guest room for about a month.  They loved it because that room has a TV, but it also had old ugly white carpet which they destroyed in their boy-ness.

We took apart the beds and moved it to the master room to work on for a while.

I bought these shelves to paint and add to the top bunks for books, etc.

We began work on making the old bunkbeds and the new ones we bought look like a set.

Since the boys destroyed the guest room, for some of the time, everyone's mattresses were in my room on the sides of my king bed so we sometimes had GO Dog GO slumber parties.

We painted the walls (one used to be red) and the stripe.

Their room also has a walk in closet which I had given thought to for about 4 years before I could figure out how to organize for 4 boys that are similar sizes.

Here is the before shot. Shoes on the shelf by the door per kid, winter clothes on the top shelf, one boys clothes in those drawers.

All their junk was placed in their bathroom while we did the renovations.

We bought fabric to staplegun to the under-part of the bunk bed that the lower bunks stare up at all night long.

This is what my room looked like for months with random furniture in various stages being built, fixed, painted, etc.

Next we got new carpet in a few rooms, including the boys' room. I was very excited about that!

We also had a carpenter friend build us a custom four person drawer to go across the window.  It was probably the most expensive thing we've done all year but totally worth it!

With a few added shelves, we began work on the closet as well.  First, we painted it and fixed the drawers.

The laundry for four boys was seen in a few rooms and was a nightmare.  Every day was "MOOOMM! Where's my socks/underwear/pants (fill in the blank)?"

I stained and coated the drawers and finished up the closet while Doug was a business trip to surprise him.  Let's just say I was not the nicest person being single mom and project mom at the same time.

As part of the new closet organizational system, I had a friend create velcro'ed size tags, and vinyl for drawers and wall spaces.

There are a few collective shelves for shared treasures.

Shoe boxes for each boy

Shelves for each boy for their special things.

I had to sew the curtains shorter and add the deco in the room.

We added back in all the clothes with winter shirts on the top shelf in each size 4T-10/12, winter pants on the shelf under that in ascending sizes, hangers with sizes going up as well, and drawers with shared ties, socks and underwear (although they know which ones are whose).

The final piece to complete was the bathroom which we switched from rubber duckies to superhero's.

The bed set now, with the big boys on top and the little boys on the bottom.

The closet and stuffed animal area.

With leftover fabric, Haleigh sewed birthday pillows for the babies.

Now they are all moved in and having a slumber party every night.  It was a monster of a project but I LOVE the way it turned out.
