Flood

Sometimes I'm glad we have an unfinished basement.  We've lived here for three years and had three floods down there.  It's much easier to clean up a watery mess with nothing down there.  This time it was a backed up sewer line.  Luckily, we were draining a tub at the time and so only clear water came back in.  Since it was from sewer lines though, everything had to be disinfected and the men in hasmat suits were very entertaining for the kids.  Carter, Doug and I weren't too happy to hear that we had been barefoot (and in church clothes also since we were 10 minutes away from going to church) in sewer water and had to soak in hydrogen peroxide.

Meanwhile, Wyatt threw up all over the kitchen floor that day and Haleigh (who was babysitting upstairs) yelled down to us.  Let's just say Doug and my stress level hit a breaking point and poor Carter had to watch his mother cry and hear his Dad say a few new words.

Water reached three walls in the basement and destroyed about $2000.00 worth of stuff down there plus drywall in the one finished room.  We had to have fans running for four days and two sessions of disinfecting and washing out by the plumber men.  We never could figure out what caused the sewer clog.  It was really sweet how fast our ward heard about it (while at church) and sent over some cute deacons to check on us and the elders quorum.

All's well that ends well though.  Now we need some work done on the third floor and basement one of these days.

I'm so sorry this happened to you! We were lucky I guess and only had water come in the window well once or twice while we lived there. But sewer water, yuck! When it rains, it pours, it seems.
