Family Nights

Yesterday at church, Carter pulled me out of junior primary sharing time and said, "Oh yeh, Mom?  I forgot to tell you... I have a talk in primary in five minutes."

I whipped one out really quick because it was about what we've been doing in family night for the past year.  Learning the prophets in the scriptures.  We've memorized the names of the Book of Mormon, Old Testament and New Testament books by learning the songs about them.  The Old Testament took 6 month! Those names are hard!  We also learned the names of the Latter day prophets and are now memorizing the 17 verses to the Book of Mormon Stories song.  There are also some cool cards we have of scripture heroes and we learn a few each week and write the names under.

The second yearlong project we have going is about Family History.  We made some goals and divided up the tasks.  They involve getting a few histories recorded and preparing names to take to the temple when Carter turns 12.  We've become familiar with Family Search, and love the fan charts they have now.

The kids love family night and always remind me about it when I forget.  We start with a director who assigns out tasks, but mom always gets the lesson.  Look how bored Carter looks...funny!

This was a fun lesson.  I hid notes to each kid and put them in a sleeping bag.  Then gave them a head flashlight and they had to go mining in it to get it for the lesson.  We follow it all up with a new special treat at the end which is always exciting to see what it's going to be that week!

Ok, sorry for the MILLION comments, but I can't help it. you can delete them if you wish:) you are SO creative! I love the idea of scripture heroes; I had the idea before, but didn't know how to go about it. I love how you make it so fun for your kids. They'll have such great memories of growing up in your home.
