For Doug's birthday this year, we decided to use our anniversary gift for the whole family. Doug had given me earlier in the year a gift certificate to a nearby mountain resort for a night away and cave dive. I had been very excited for our get-a-way, but we decided to use it for the whole family to get away from life for a while. It was very fun!
First we got everyone bundled up nice and warm.
Tired from the drive.
We stopped to do our traditional sibling dollar store shopping for
Christmas. Everyone chose things that were just right for each other.
No peeking!
We saw this getting built and weren't sure what it was. I've heard it is a maze called Ice Castles that later in the season you can get lost in made from ice and sprinklers.
We got to our resort and explored a bit.
Then off to the cave for swimming. I gave up my spot for Doug and Carter to go for a birthday night swim. They were nervous but had a great time. I took the rest of the kids outside for a moonlight walk. It was wintery with a full moon, and gorgeous!
All in all a perfect birthday weekend! Hopefully, we'll get our anniversary trip back one day! :)
