I'm up with the kids letting Doug have his turn to sleep in (Yesterday I got to sleep in till 7:40-it felt like forever!) and waiting for conference to start. I love General Conference! I thought I'd blog about some of our conference traditions:
1. We think of a specific question we want answered that deals with our family at that time. Right now, we are listening for validation on careers and moving. It was neat that the very first talk yesterday was about spiritual guidance. Just what we needed. There were more too.
2. The kids do a packet of puzzles and coloring pages to keep their attention. The packets don't last too long though.
3. We have a cup of small candy like skittles, or M & M's with a word. Yesterday it was Jesus and we haven't picked one for today. It they hear the word, they get a candy. They love this game. Other words we've used: love, family, Savior, faith
4. Food: we always have pancakes while we sit in our PJ's. Very fun. I think I could take this to a new level with more snacks but I kind of like it to be less party atmosphere and more reverent for now.
5. Project: Sometimes we have a quiet project going to do while we listen. It helps to avoid falling asleep. This time we are sorting all the legos in colors and then finding the pieces for all the kits we have so we can either rebuild them or sell them and buy some new lego kits they want.
6. Notes: I always have a notebook to write notes, impressions and thoughts down. Then we review it later.
