Mystery Reader

Also for Halloween at school, we attended the kids classes to help out with the festivities.  Doug had signed up at the beginning of the year to be the "Mystery Reader" for Carter's class.  Throughout the week, the kids are given clues about the person and on Friday's they come read a book.  Doug, of course, chose "Halloween" by Jerry Seinfeld. He also talked about any books that had candy in them like Harry Potter, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The Candy Wars.  The kids ate Gobstoppers and also tried Bertie Botts Every Flavor Jelly Beans.  He did a great job! 

Next we went on to Haleigh's kindergarten class where we were put in charge of decorating sugar cookies.  Miles thought he fit right in both classrooms and Michelle was just an observer.  

Extra Halloween Fun

I put some of these pictures on my author blog but went back later during a better part of day to get better ones.  A neighbor of ours decorates for Halloween according to some of their favorite stories.  This year was Alice in Wonderland drawn and cut by hand in every window.  This is now my new tradition.  I even know next years book, now I just need a house!  :)

Carter's art project from school.  The head of this vampire is a withered apple.  It was pretty gross and very cool looking.  

While driving around one day we found a very cute neighborhood and was shocked to see a sunken pirate ship in the front yard.  This house had the most amazing Halloween decorations complete with a full cannon, this ship, a full armored headless knight,  and many other things.  I think they must do a show at night because a screen and light show was also set up around the corner.

This cupcake I thought was cute for future ideas.  It was chocolate with a witch hat made of fudge strips and a hershey's kiss.  

Halloween Fun

I know I'm chronologically out of order for all of these posts lately, but oh well.  Here is a glimpse at our Halloween festivities.  At school there was a Halloween parade that Haleigh loved and Carter was shy about.  The kids attended a party at church where they got some really good prizes.  Louis was terrified of his Sully costume from Monsters, Inc.  I think he thought the monster was eating him.  Carter's ninja pics were funny I thought.  He began the day with a lame pose and by the end of the day was a ninja expert.  Haleigh decided to be Sleeping Beauty again this year but with makeup.  The actual trick or treating day was a downpour of rain and thank goodness we bought umbrella's earlier that day.  They went out in the rain and got plenty of loot to come home and trade with each other.  Getting everyone to sit still and not scream for photos didn't work this year either.
